Titania Moon 'Slipstream'

Slipstream is our first retro album by Titania Moon. Using vintage Analogue keys, no computers or samplers and played mainly live, the duo Andy Var & Mick Skinner produce full bodied sequencer runs and cascading chords.
The album was originally released on the Music Elseware Label on cassette . The music has been digitally enhance to produce a more dynamic sound and considering the limitations of the original analogue recording has surprised us with it's powerful compositions.

Syndromeda In Chaos

As the title makes clear, Dave Gurr and Ed Britten got together with Danny Budts to produce this superb album which, as this is written, has yet to find a label willing to release it, but such is the quality of this music, it’s surely only a matter of time until this situation is remedied.
Regular followers of the European EM scene will doubtless be aware of the leaps and bounds that Syndromeda’s music has taken with each album being better than the last and his heavily rhythmic style is written large over much of this album but an added bonus is the guitar work of Ed which gives it a space rock, almost psycadelic feel, in places whilst some of the solos simply defy belief.
The opening ‘Huizen Express 7' is a good example of this as, after the ubiquitous spacey intro it develops into a track so catchy it’s the musical equivalent of influenza. Superb synth-leads take the reins and lead this track on as Ed’s guitar begins to make it’s presence felt, most particularly in the latter stages which sets up for a grand finish. ’Beyond Conception’ is more sequencer-based and boasting some interesting voice samples (including some from ‘Blade Runner’ unless I’m mistaken!). Again Ed’s guitar is mixed back which means that it adds to the atmosphere rather than swamping the whole caboodle (re;Tangerine Dream!!). The shorter, rhythmic ‘Jump Gate’ recalls Dave’s earlier solo works, being up-tempo and once again boasting some superb soloing with good use made of pitch bending. A spacey, ambient section opens ‘Mapping The Marian' as before, in a similar fashion to the opening track, building into a rhythmically intense numer with yet more utterly superb soloing, this is another highlight amongst the many to be found here. ‘Skudicism’ opens with monk’s chants (cliched, yes, but effective nonetheless) before an intense set of synth chords make their mark which, in turn give way to the inevitable sequencers, which are more mid-paced here but still with that spacey feel infused into the essentially rhythmic styles. To close ‘Banzai’ goes hell for leather at breakneck speed and action-packed melodics with excellent guitar/synth interplay. Once established the initial premise changes little but it’s an excellent finale even so. C.J.

Julian Bishop 'Alchemy'

Every now and then from the bubbling cauldron of E.M. there emerges a potion of spellbinding excellence conjured from patience, skill, confidence and a knowledge gained from experience. Julian has composed a CD that successively covers all E.M. perimeters, from the commercial style of Jean Michel Jarre, the rock orientated Mark Shreeve, the melodic rhythmic David Wright, the exceptional Andy Pickford, the dark Gothic Jim Kirkwood, to the masters of classical music but after making this statement the music is completely original. One compares compositions, unfortunately, with musicians styles that have gone before... which is wrong as the pure talent that you come to notice as the last composition closes has to be applanded. The CD has taken an exceptional long time to complete due to personal and technical difficulties, but it has been well worth the wait.

As E.M. seems to be and it’s many attributes in the analogue Retro mode with many E.M. musicans on the bandwagon of conformity. Julian’s music has jumped down from the wagon and walked along a different road, yes! There is nothing wrong with analogue - Retro - E.M. but as we take a step into the year 2000 some E.M. musicians are looking for a diversion in expression through their music, Julian has provided perhaps the first step for E.M. musicians to establish a new route.

Howard Armitage ‘Tranquil Water’

Unlike many of the more prolific artists in contemporary medative music, Howard offers a stunning spiritual album creating introspective music full of subtle beauty, at times quite delicate.
Throughout the music encompasses a feeling of great beauty woven together in pure ecstasy, If it possible to perfect the craft of evoking human feelings then this is it. You will be carried away by 'Tranquil Water' overflowing with the qualities of peace and tranquillity.

Kelvin L. Smith 'Lapis Lazuli'

"LAPIS LAZULI represents the best of 'ambient' in that it is accessible with memorable pieces whilst at the same time satisfying the dream-like medative states that characterise this genre...and the track KIMBERLITE is worth the asking price in itself", Steve Roberts.

"a truly memorable album this turned out to be-ambient space music at its best. Kelvin L Smith sounds American but he comes from Wales and we expect there is much soaring of string laden synths in the valleys. This is cosmic, drifty and quite beautiful in parts. Its not quite celestial but very subtle and,at times understated which gives the whole work an interesting perspective. Recommended", Midas Records.

Kelvin L. Smith 'Galaxy Gate'

Kelvin has changed his style slightly crossing avant ambient and even space e.m. barriers, which upon talking to Kelvin explained that the composition was built around the theme of four books he had read on related subjects. The album is a ‘concept album’, and should be likened to and listened to in as much.
